India Moments

On a semi-regular basis I have what I call an India moment. These are the moments when either in shock, delight, or dismay I experience or see something that is just so India that it seems near impossible to experience in the US. I wanted to write about a few of them:

  • The havoc that a single plum can wreak on my stomach
  • A blood red sun sinking to the horizon, perfectly outlined through the haze
  • Regularly seeing an incredible number of Indians packed into one very small vehicle
  • A herd of goats stopping traffic on a busy street
  • A six year old girl holding her naked baby brother as her four year old girl begs from us with flies crawling on her face
My most recent India moment happened last on the way to dinner. We took a single rickshaw with 2 portuguese girls, 1 portuguese guy, 1 french guy, 1 egyptian girl and 1 american girl (me) to and from dinner. On the way back Marisa and I squatted in the back of the rickshaw but I was unable to sit down fully because I was sitting above the engine and would have burned me. So I squatted Indian style for about 20 minutes until I was able to move next to Marisa for the rest of the ride back. We took pictures but they are on her camera but I'll try to upload them soon.

There was another beautiful sunset last night. It cast the whole world in pink, and I thought of the song "La Vie en Rose"- the life in pink. I took a ton of pictures :)
